The worst team in IPL history ever- no team is weak or strong but sometimes they underperform. Here is the list of teams who performed really badly in the IPL history since 2008.
You all should know the team rankings and their past performance. Has any team really been very good in the past? Who is the leader of IPL in the whole of history?
So stay reading till the end.
Punjab Kings-
Yes, the Punjab-based IPL franchise team Punjab Kings there is no doubt but how. No doubt Punjab Kings is the worst IPL team ever in IPL tournament history.
The stats show you how well the Punjab team performed in the history of Vivo IPL. They played 198 matches and lost 107. Even the team has not qualified for the IPL final match yet.
Team | Matches | Wins | Losses | Tie/NR | Win% |
Punjab Kings | 198 | 91 | 107 | 0/0 | 45.90% |
***It is more interesting so continue reading.
They have great players but management sells them out in next season’s auction. They had a strong batting lineup but Punjab Kings bowlers did not perform their 100 percent.
This is the story of the IPL team Punjab Kings and their history in short.
IPL franchise team Punjab Kings has collaborated with TV actresses Preity Zinta, Ness Wadia & others. But in my opinion, IPL is a fun Cricket game for them and that is why they don’t care about wins or losses.
This franchise team almost does every silly mistake they shouldn’t do in the IPL auction or during match planning.
In the auction, they sell their potential and emerging talented players to other franchises. Respectively buy new un-relevant players for the season.
They spend huge money to buy new talent and inexperienced players. The franchise is more focused on foreign players in the hope they can do some magic every season.
But hopefully, all the money and expectations are ruined in the middle of every IPL season. Where the team lies in the lowest position on the IPL leaderboard.
They have batsmen like Chris Gayle, Nicholas Pooran, Malan, and Sharukh Khan in 2021 but still, they face problems finding the best middle order for each match. All times Punjab Kings depend on Gayle & K.L. Rahul for runs.
In 2021 Arshdeep Singh was the only bowler in the Punjab team who maintained his pace till the end and another one was Mohammed Shami. All other foreign bowlers like Richardson, and Riley did not do so well.
Punjab has to accept that Indian players should be the first choice for the Indian pitch. Foreign players either batsmen or bowlers, can’t do extraordinary things as Indians do. Because of playing experience on Indian pitches.
Riley Meredith & Jhye Richardson are great bowlers on their home pitch but faded on the Indian cricket pitch.
KL Rahul as a Captain does his duty fine and while choosing his best playing XI for Punja Kings he finds difficulties. No doubt Rahul is another best batsmen in the IPL.
Now Punjab Kings have a new captain Mayank Agarwal. Let’s see how well Mayank manages the Punjab Kings Squad in the IPL 2022.
Delhi Capitals-
Delhi Capitals is another worst team in the history of IPL. Not too bad as Punjab Kings but still follow the same practice as the Punjab team.
With the support of GMR & JSW Groups franchise started the IPL journey in 2008 with the name of Delhi DareDevils. In 2018 the name was renamed Delhi Capitals.
Delhi was a great IPL franchise team during the initial phase of the IPL series in 2008. The team reached 3 times in the semi-finals & played 2 times in playoff matches.
Delhi Capitals (DC) is the witness of the greatest cricket players in their franchise ever. Players like Gautam Gambhir, David Warner, Yuvraj Singh, AB de Villiers, Virender Sehwag, Kevin Pietersen, Maxwell, Russell, and Umesh Yadav were part of the team.
Teams | Matches | Wins | Losses | Tie/NR | Win% |
Delhi Capitals | 202 | 92 | 108 | 0/2 | 46% |
But still, the Delhi IPL team historically has not performed well,
Then what happened to the DC squad, the answer is poor management and a lack of confidence in their players. If we talk about all these above-mentioned players they are big names in the IPL tournament.
DC franchise always looked out to big names in IPL mega auctions. After buying and giving a mentorship they released them in the next season on the basis of stats in the past.
Delhi franchise knows how to select the best playing XI for hard competition. But management doesn’t have the patience and ability to retain the talent for the future.
In 2011 franchise released its talent Gambhir and retained Sehwag. In the same year, they lost AB de Villiers and Daniel Vettori to RCB.
From this period DC starts losing the strategy of their squad and gets made to test & try new players each time.
Yuvraj Singh was a big mistake for DC when they handed him over to another team. After 2 years Yuvraj Singh played very well for Sunrisers and won the title for them.
There are so many mistakes this franchise made in the past. They buy new players, train them, and after analyzing their performance in single-season, release them for the next series.
Names like Pawan Negi, Sanju Samson, Shikhar Dhawan, Quinton de Kock, and Imran Tahir had the same case.
After playing for the next franchise team all players make their name and become the win-win part of the team. Imran was the most respectable bowler in the CSK squad, and Sanju is also a trending player in the Indian squad.
Luckily this year also DC picked a brilliant player in the auction for the 2022 season. Now it’s time to learn from past mistakes and do some better things.
Delhi Capitals has strong players Shardul Thakur, David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Prithvi Shaw, and Lungi Ngidi.
Now it sees how DC gets the best out of these players and Delhi makes history in IPL to win their first trophy.
Rajasthan Royals-
Teams | Matches | Wins | Losses | Tie/NR | Wins% |
Rajasthan Royals | 168 | 84 | 82 | 0/2 | 50.60% |
Rajasthan Royals is the team that won the inaugural edition of IPL 2008. After that Rajasthan did not even reach the final till 2021.
Rajasthan Royals is the third-worst team in the Vivo IPL history. The franchise management always looks for money and plays the Moneyball game.
Even in Auctions, they buy big players but still, no one plays the big game for them. Players like Sanju Samson, Chris Morris, David Miller, Ajinkya Rahane, Jos Butler, Jofra Archer, and Shreyas Gopal.
No one was able to play a magic game for them in any season. It is not the fault of the players, they are good no doubt. There is a problem in the selection of the team, pitch strategies, off-pitch performance, and the best decision at right time.
All these planning before the auction and while competing with rival teams play a crucial role in winning the team. We can always see the weakness of team management and the lack of players’ enthusiasm.
The head coach and squad management face to balance the player in the right position. Sometimes they miss middle-order or sometimes they play strong as openers.
No doubt the Rajasthan squad has a strong batting line-up and they chase the big score efficiently. But on the other side bowling is a weak point for them.
If they succeed to fill the gap between bowling and batting then no doubt they can make history once again in TATA IPL.
Rajasthan has a limited fan base and less popularity inside or outside India. But the franchise is able to earn a huge amount through big sponsorship.
Sponsorships like Yellow Panther, Sportz interactive, interactive avenues, epiphany, Jio, KEI Wires and Cables, Colgate, Kingfisher, Dream11, BKT, Kotak, tv9, and Red Bull for IPL 2021.

Final Thoughts-
Finally, it is all my own point of view based on the stats of IPL T20. Did you like the post of Worst IPL Team in the history of Vivo IPL?
All teams are great and strong at their own level. Some franchise teams have strong team spirit, some have better future planning, and some know how to utilize the asset of the team. Some have a big fan base but still, all teams play very well in all seasons no doubt.
